Common Causes of Mold
- Water infiltration that has remained for more than 24-48 hours is the main cause
- Condensation from hot air meeting cooler air (this will occur on a surface)
- Attic soffit vents
- Soffits being blocked by insulation or (older homes) wood not allowing air flow
Water infiltration
Water entering the basement and not being dried in the appropriate time frame to prevent mold.
Floods
Water remaining in the basement under raised flooring and behind walls where the conditions do not allow it to dry quickly enough.
Shower drainage issue
Shower drains sometimes begin to flex after a period of usage. This allows water to penetrate around the seal and onto the floor underneath the shower stall.
